Education
Postdoctoral Fellowship - American Society for Engineering Education. 2013 I worked as a post doctoral fellow for the US Navy as a research chemist engineering systems for production and analysis of modern energetics. I loved the work in many ways and found the professional environment too constraining. PhD University of Utah - Physical Chemistry - 2010 I received many awards in grad school and published 11 papers, 4 as first author. I think of academics as dynamic and playful. The PhD was the most rewarding experience I can imagine in this way. Good people and good conversation. BS Eastern Michigan University - Professional Chemistry - GPA 3.7 - 2004 I started college in Colorado and finished back home in Michigan. I did not do well in high school and I am dyslexic, so with that combination I was not prepared for college. After leaving and working construction jobs for a few years, I went back to college with a much higher level of motivation and thrived!! Attitude is everything.
Experience
I have been teaching high school physics and chemistry for the last five years at Dublin School, Jaffrey Rindge Middle School and now Conant High. I was the teaching assistant for thermodynamics, although Quantum mechanics is also a close passion. I have a 5 year old and love working with him on everything academic:) I am excited to work with upper level chem, math and physics students as well as test prep for SAT, PRAXIS, GRE or anywhere else my skill set fits. I am happy to work with your academic goals. If you are in a subject that you want to truly understand at a high level, or if you just need a grade, we can make a plan to meet your goals. I am a natually curious person and belive most people are capable of much more than we think. Gatting to this hidden potential takes a combination of positive attitude, good work ethic and a vission that empowers the learners. I have been tutoring of and on for 20 years. Learning is an intensly personal process and no 2 people learn or communicate in the same way. My standard reate is $50/hr and I work on a sliding scale. Additionally, I love working in small groups. For example, in many classes several students could bennefit from meeting outside of class. If you can organize a small group I can meet you. In an ideal situation, students learn to work together and my precense becomes needed less often. I love working with all ages. My son is 8 and we work on math, logic, programming, language development and such most days because he thinks it is fun. The game it to make the process enjoyable so we are excited about getting to work, then anything is possible.

Hobbies
I have been an avid mountain biker and skier most of my life. I enjoy good company and good conversation. My life at this point is focused around my son. We spend a lot of our time together outdoors and working on his academic and athletic growth. I love to read and am crazy enough to think that if we work together to use language in powerful ways we can all live healthier lives. I am passionate about education reform and civil justice, which to me are not 2 separate subjects.
